Henry Glass Designer's Project Parade - Day 4

Today is the 4th day of our Henry Glass Designers Project Parade!

Welcome to Rose Cottage Quilts - if you do not know me let introduce myself.

I have been designing quilt patterns for almost 15 years, my sister is the one who pushed me into designing. So on a whim I decided to try a few quilts - and people liked them! I have 3 books with Leisure Arts and almost 40 pattern designs. I applique and piece easy, whimsical quilts.

I designed fabric with Windham for 5 years and now I am with Henry Glass. It is always fun and exciting to see your ideas become quilts.

I love Christmas with all of the decorations, lights, and parties with friends and family. Our family has had a few traditions such a putting up the Christmas tree the Saturday after Thanksgiving, making cookies, wassail, and pajamas from Santa on Christmas Eve.

I can not give you pajamas for Christmas, or let you smell the wonderful wassail aroma as it fills our home, but I can give you our cookie recipe. These cookies are fun to make ahead of time and when you want warm cookies, you can pull them out of the freezer and bake them

Christmas Cookies

1 cup sugar

1 ½ tsp. vanilla

1 cup butter/ softened

3 cups all-purpose flour

2 eggs

1 tsp. salt

½ tsp. baking soda

Mix sugar, butter, eggs and vanilla. Stir in remaining ingredients. Divide into 3 equal parts. Shape each part into rolls, about 1 ½ inches in diameter. Roll in colored sugar crystals. Warp and refrigerate at least 4 hours.

Heat oven to 400°. Cut rolls into 1/8-inch slices. Place about 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes. Immediately remove form cookie sheet. Makes about 7 dozen cookies

My free project is a 12 Days of Christmas Advent Hanging

It is made with a dish towel – or toweling fabric, scraps of Christmas fabric, ribbon, rick-rack and buttons. I had a great time embellishing my pockets, I hope you will also.

12 Days of Christmas Advent Hanging

1 woven dish towel or 28 inches of toweling fabric

8 inches of large green rick-rack

2 ½ yards of large red rick-rack

1 yard Christmas Ribbon

12 assorted fabrics – cut into 3 ½ x6 inch pieces for the pockets

Assorted Ribbons, rick-rack and buttons

Thread to match

1 thin dowel cut to the width of the towel

- Fold each pocket in half, right side together and stitch around the edges leaving an opening to turn them right side out. Embellish the pocket with the desired ribbons, button, etc.

- Sew 10 pockets onto the towel to form a tree shape, leaving the top open.

- Sew the large green rick-rack down the center of the towel below the pockets. Sew the remaining 2 pockets on both sides of the trunk. Sew a bow make of the Christmas ribbon onto the top of the trunk.

- Sew the red rick-rack around the edges of the towel, leaving an opening on the top and bottom sides for the dowel. Sew the Christmas ribbon onto the top of the hanging and tie to the desired length.

Fill the pockets with small candies, suckers or whatever you can find so each day has its little surprise

Beside my free project I will have a free drawing – Fat quarters of my fabric line “Rose Cottage”. Just leave your email address in the comment section.

I will have another give-away in a day or two, so check back to win!

One last thing – my word for the Henry Glass Give-away is Holly!

Remember to log onto the other 2 designers for today -
