It's Winter Again!

We had a major cold front come through our area a few weeks ago, and we thought that the snow was here to stay.
Little did we know that it would warm up to
the high 40's and all the snow would melt!

Last night winter came back and it is
snowing right now.
I walk every morning and I love to walk in the snow before every
one is driving to work, or taking their children to school. It is peaceful and beautiful and I can think and plan what I am going to do for the day.

Oh Christmas Tree

If you have been reading my blog, you will know that I had a little problem with my tree this year. It was not quite the shape I wanted, and with a little trim and a few "new lights" it is know finally finished. Here is the completed project - mistakes and all !

Cleaning Alert!

I need to warn you about a bathroom cleaner that is really BAD!
I got it at our 1$ store here in town but I also found it at "Smith's Market Place" a large chain of stores in our area.
It is called "The Works", and it really does work on some things.
My husband thought he would be helpful on Thanksgiving Day and clean one of our bathrooms. As he opened the cleaner he dropped the bottle on our floor and it eat a hole out of the carpet in just seconds
!

Here is the proof - so be careful, really careful if you have this product in your home.

This is the floor of one of our bathrooms. I know you will say "WOW carpet in the bathroom. How old is her house? Does she have any taste in her decorating?"

1st - I have been trying to g
et rid of this carpet for YEARS!
2nd - My husband did not let me remodel for YEARS!
3rd - It really is kind of nice to have a floor that is not cold to step on in the morning.

Anyway, It is going to be changed to new cabinets, new tile, new, etc.
I have been the contractor on these
projects and I am going crazy.
Remodel 2 bathrooms during the Holidays is NUTS.

Here is one of the bathrooms before, I will let you know how they look when I am finished and all I have to worry about is if my quilts are looking right to the next marke
t.

Henry Glass Designer's Project Parade - Day 4

Today is the 4th day of our Henry Glass Designers Project Parade!

Welcome to Rose Cottage Quilts - if you do not know me let introduce myself.

I have been designing quilt patterns for almost 15 years, my sister is the one who pushed me into designing. So on a whim I decided to try a few quilts - and people liked them! I have 3 books with Leisure Arts and almost 40 pattern designs. I applique and piece easy, whimsical quilts.

I designed fabric with Windham for 5 years and now I am with Henry Glass. It is always fun and exciting to see your ideas become quilts.

I love Christmas with all of the decorations, lights, and parties with friends and family. Our family has had a few traditions such a putting up the Christmas tree the Saturday after Thanksgiving, making cookies, wassail, and pajamas from Santa on Christmas Eve.

I can not give you pajamas for Christmas, or let you smell the wonderful wassail aroma as it fills our home, but I can give you our cookie recipe. These cookies are fun to make ahead of time and when you want warm cookies, you can pull them out of the freezer and bake them

Christmas Cookies

1 cup sugar

1 ½ tsp. vanilla

1 cup butter/ softened

3 cups all-purpose flour

2 eggs

1 tsp. salt

½ tsp. baking soda

Mix sugar, butter, eggs and vanilla. Stir in remaining ingredients. Divide into 3 equal parts. Shape each part into rolls, about 1 ½ inches in diameter. Roll in colored sugar crystals. Warp and refrigerate at least 4 hours.

Heat oven to 400°. Cut rolls into 1/8-inch slices. Place about 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes. Immediately remove form cookie sheet. Makes about 7 dozen cookies

My free project is a 12 Days of Christmas Advent Hanging

It is made with a dish towel – or toweling fabric, scraps of Christmas fabric, ribbon, rick-rack and buttons. I had a great time embellishing my pockets, I hope you will also.

12 Days of Christmas Advent Hanging

1 woven dish towel or 28 inches of toweling fabric

8 inches of large green rick-rack

2 ½ yards of large red rick-rack

1 yard Christmas Ribbon

12 assorted fabrics – cut into 3 ½ x6 inch pieces for the pockets

Assorted Ribbons, rick-rack and buttons

Thread to match

1 thin dowel cut to the width of the towel

- Fold each pocket in half, right side together and stitch around the edges leaving an opening to turn them right side out. Embellish the pocket with the desired ribbons, button, etc.

- Sew 10 pockets onto the towel to form a tree shape, leaving the top open.

- Sew the large green rick-rack down the center of the towel below the pockets. Sew the remaining 2 pockets on both sides of the trunk. Sew a bow make of the Christmas ribbon onto the top of the trunk.

- Sew the red rick-rack around the edges of the towel, leaving an opening on the top and bottom sides for the dowel. Sew the Christmas ribbon onto the top of the hanging and tie to the desired length.

Fill the pockets with small candies, suckers or whatever you can find so each day has its little surprise

Beside my free project I will have a free drawing – Fat quarters of my fabric line “Rose Cottage”. Just leave your email address in the comment section.

I will have another give-away in a day or two, so check back to win!

One last thing – my word for the Henry Glass Give-away is Holly!

Remember to log onto the other 2 designers for today -

December 1st

Long Beach Pier - No Snow
WOW!!

What a difference 1 & 1/2 hours can make!
Our family spent the last 5 days in Southern California. It was cool, my daughters said it was cold, but nice when the sun came out. Mean while at home, in Utah, it was below freezing and snowing. We had at least 1 foot of snow in our driveway, and I will be outside most of this morning shoveling the snow off of the driveway.

As you can see I have had technical problems with my blog. My daughter had it all set up with our new design and one day it vanished. So we will start again - I will start again. So, please don't expect too much from me, I don't know what I
am doing!

Today is December 1st, We try to set up our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. Our tree is 12 feet tall. My husband wanted the tallest tree he could find for our front room. He did not realize that the tree would weight more than1 hundred pounds and come in 4 sections. He had to buy a heavy duty ladder to reach the top section.

This year we have had a bigger problem than every before. The tree fell over has my husband and my 2 sons tried to set it up, and the stand is broken and the tree is on the floor.

I think is headed for the dump - poor tree. I'll let you know what happens later.

This is from last year. The top is the hardest part.

Happy New Year 2010

Today is the first day of the new year! What did you do?

I slept in until 8:00 and them fell asleep when I tried to watch the Rose Parade. Then it was back to the sewing machine to work on 2 quilts that I'll be teaching this spring. Then I worked on the free pattern that will be available with my new fabric line. I'll give you the info on the line as soon as I can.
